The Task Force on Assessment and Accountability will meet Tuesday, October 14, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the State Board Room of the Capital Plaza Tower in Frankfort.  A live Webcast of the meeting will be available here beginning at approximately 12:30 the day of the meeting.  See press release for more information.

Every year, the Character Education Partnership (CEP) names approximately 10 public and private schools and districts (K-12) as National Schools of Character (NSOC) for their outstanding work in character education.  The awards program honors these exemplars, showcases their work, and facilitates their leadership in the field of character education.  Application guidelines may be downloaded at www.charactercincinnati.org.  Applications must be submitted by December 8, 2008.  For more information, please contact the Character Council of Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky at 513-467-0170. Laura McGrail, lead school psychologist for the Henderson County school district, is the recipient of the fifth annual Dr. Samuel Robinson Award, presented today by the Kentucky Board of Education at its meeting in Frankfort.  See press release for more information.

Nine outstanding teachers from around the state – three elementary school teachers, three middle school teachers and three high school teachers – have been named semifinalists for the Kentucky Teacher of the Year award.  See press release for more information.

Kentucky Education Issues, a television program hosted by Education Commissioner Jon E. Draud, features lively discussion with leading educators and policy makers concerning topics important to students, teachers and taxpayers. See Program #16 here.

Applicants Sought for Highly Skilled Educator Program

Applicants are now being sought for the 2009-10 Highly Skilled Educator (HSE) Cadre.  The HSE program provides support to low-performing public schools by placing individuals in those schools to work with teachers, administrators and other staff to improve student achievement.  See the application here.

Draud Outlines Kentucky's Progress in P-12 Education
Kentucky Education Commissioner Jon E. Draud says that, although Kentucky faces many obstacles in the struggle to raise academic achievement for its public school students, the state has made remarkable progress in the nearly 20 years since the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) was passed.  See press release for more information.
