Child Nutrition Program Consultant

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of District Support Services (ODSS), Division of Nutrition and Health Services, in Frankfort (Franklin County) has an opening for a Child Nutrition Program Consultant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Under general direction of a manager, provide consultative services, technical assistance, and training to local school district personnel and other state and/or private educational agencies, residential child care institutions, child care centers, family day care homes, and summer food service program sponsors in the development, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of their nutrition programs.

 

Provide technical assistance and training to sponsors of the School Breakfast Program, the National School Lunch Program, the Special Milk Program, and the Summer Food Service Program.

 

Evaluate and approve applications for program participation, and update information in the database.

 

Conduct compliance monitoring, make recommendations, and write reports.

 

Attend staff meetings and other professional development meetings as directed.

 

Interpret and apply federal, state, and departmental statutes, regulations, and policies related to particular program area(s).

 

Perform other duties as required.

 

**This position requires a significant amount of statewide travel throughout the year.**

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be a graduate of a college or university with a Master’s degree in education, education administration, food service administration, nutrition, home economics, vocational home economics, or a related field.  Must have five years of professional experience in education, vocational education, food service administration, or a related field.

 

SUBSTITUTION CLAUSE:

 

Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required education OR registration as a Dietician will substitute for the required education OR additional professional experience in the field of education or food service administration will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

 

Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.

 

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment will be given.

 

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System.

 

Pay Grade:  15                

Gross Monthly Salary Range:  $3,230.84 - $4,280.10
