The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Instructional Services, Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) in Danville, Kentucky (Boyle County) has an opening for an Interpreter II.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Interpret from spoken English to the IEP specified modality (ASL, Signed English, etc) and from the IEP specified modality to spoken English.

 

Fully and effectively implement knowledge of the field of interpreting.

 

Mentor other educational interpreters.

 

Relate well to deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

 

Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

 

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with administrators, teachers, and directors of special education.

 

Provide instructional staff with relevant information regarding student’s functional abilities in the classroom.

 

Provide professional development on deafness and interpreting related topics.

 

Communicate effectively orally, in writing, and across the signing continuum.

 

Work independently with little direction.

 

Maintain current knowledge of school rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.

 

Maintain interpreting/sign language services through emails, filing, scheduling, correspondence and other duties assigned by supervisor or director.

 

Has flexibility with interpreting hours to accommodate some late afternoon or evening programs.

 

Suggest recommendations to instructional staff based on the learning styles of students being served.

 

Prepare for demanding course materials as necessary for successful interpreting and/or transliterating.

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Pay Grade: 15 

Gross Monthly Salary Range: $3230.84 - $4280.10

 

This is a full-time, 10-month position that does not perform duties during June and July.
