Career Pathways are systemic frameworks for transforming our educational institutions by proactively addressing the needs of students and employers across the learning continuum.
A program of studies for each career pathways is a coherent, articulated sequence of rigorous academic and career/technical courses including dual credit opportunities, leading to postsecondary degrees and industry recognized certifications and/or licensures.
Career Pathways are developed, implemented and maintained in partnership among secondary and postsecondary institutions, business and employers. They are available to all students, including adult learners and are designed to lead to rewarding careers.
Transitions from secondary to post-secondary studies have received much attention in the past few years. In Kentucky, we are working hard to create more seamless paths for students to facilitate their achievement of a post-secondary credential. The Perkins IV Act requires all schools and colleges that receive Perkins funds to implement a program of study linking secondary to postsecondary education. As a joint effort the Kentucky Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education, Kentucky Community and Technical College System, and Council on Postsecondary Education have developed the attached model sequence of courses.
