Spring 2005 PowerPoint Presentation
The Core Content for Assessment PowerPoint shared with the Instructional Support Network (ISN) in Spring 2005 is posted at this link.  This PowerPoint provides an overview and the rationale for the changes in the Core Content for Assessment 4.0. It also explains general differences in the CCA 4.0 and some content specific examples to illustrate the differences.

Instructional Support Network (ISN) Core Content for Assessment and Depth of Knowledge (DOK) PowerPoint Fall 2005
The PowerPoint shared with the ISN in Fall 2005 is posted at this link.  It provides an overview of the changes in the CCA 4.0 and Depth of Knowledge.  In Kentucky's standards-based educational system it is important to make sure that content standards included in the Core Content for Assessment 4.0 and the state assessment are aligned for student learning. In order to better communicate this alignment and increase consistency across content areas, Kentucky used an alignment process that included an adaptation of Norman Webb's DOK model as part of the process. One step in the process was determining the depth of knowledge for each content standard.  This alignment process is also important to make sure that assessment measures in the classroom and instruction are aligned for student learning.

2004 Common Released Items
The 2004 common released items found at this site were developed using Version 3.0.

Released Items Annotated for Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Levels
At this site you will find the 2004 Common Released Items annotated with the DOK levels.  These annotated items help develop an awareness of DOK. When writing an assessment item, developers need to make sure that the assessment item is as cognitively demanding as the expectation of the content standard. This assures alignment of the content standards and the assessment items. In test design, alignment is important from an assessment perspective as well as an instructional perspective. Teachers need to understand that when an assessment item is written at a DOK 2 level, instruction should really be requiring DOK 3 or 4 thinking in order for the student to be successful on that item.  The 2004 items were not developed in the context of DOK since they were developed using the CCA 3.0 and not 4.0.  However, the annotations do provide an indication of the level of DOK for each of the items.

Depth of Knowledge (DOK) PowerPoint
The PowerPoint posted at this site provides consistent messages about DOK and includes some content specific examples. It can be used with various audiences to increase the understanding of DOK and how it applies in the context of assessment.
