STLP Project Ideas

STLP is student created projects, products and services.

Schools design projects to accomplish the mission and 6 goals.
Projects developed by the STLP members will be stronger when projects are:
Related to a need in the building and/or community
Carried out by the students over time with adult guidance
May include student interest or current or emerging technology topics
Reinforced by school and the community and are part of the school culture
Centered around the STLP Mission and Goals
Demonstrate student tech standards
Students are engaged in a global collaborative project such as ThinkQuest, iEarn
Partnered across grades, schools, communities (local, state, national and global)
Students can discuss the project well with an adult -due to active involvement in the project

Projects can be short or long term. Some projects may continue year after year.
The projects support the school and community in the use of technology.

There are four categories of the project-based learning projects:
Instructional: projects that impact the classroom instruction and help with student learning in
Arts and Humanities, Language Arts, Social Studies, and 2008 Theme: Horses *
Community Service: projects that extend outside the classroom and impact a community 
Entrepreneurial: projects that demonstrate a new way, idea or solution
STEM *: projects that support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)

These examples below are projects carried out by Kentucky STLP schools.
No grade level has been assigned, due to the multi-grade nature of project-based learning and STLP.

Instructional Projects
Offer technology classes for students, teachers, and the community
Produce school newsletters, posters, banners, and brochures, school web pages
Form buddy partners with lower grades, peers, and staff
Write, produce, and edit news shows, digital yearbooks, storybooks
Help instruct in a content area

Community Service Projects
Assist non-profit agencies in technology needs
Host open houses with tech demonstrations
Train parents, senior citizens how to use hardware, software and the Internet
Publish newsletters, business cards, brochures, web page for local businesses
Collaborate with another school, district, state, or global partner

Entrepreneurial Projects
Develop a new idea into a business, product or service
Problem solve to create a new idea, business, product or service
Develop a new idea into a business, product or service for others

STEM Projects
Support projects in STEM topics
Offer technical support help desk services
Make patch cables, salvage parts from inoperable computers check and clean computers
Work with the school and district technology departments
Seek industry standard technology certifications
 
OUTSTANDING SCHOOL PROJECTS

Best School Projects (P-12) are recognized at the annual awards program.

Best projects are recognized for:

Unique features 

Impact on school or community (local to global)

Impact on student(s)

Use of a variety of technology tools (Hardware, software and Web 2.0)

Projects can be a one time event or weekly, monthly or continuous project.


Some of the projects have been at fall showcase, some not.


Projects can be nominated by the teacher, Technology Integration Specialist (TIS), principal, parent, community person, or district technology coordinator (DTC)/CIO.
